Structural Engineering

Our Expertise

JVA’s structural engineering department focuses on building design and is experienced in all conventional building systems, including light wood framing, steel, concrete, and masonry construction. Our structural engineering team produces thorough, well-coordinated construction documents and provides excellent service throughout the life of a project. Our engineers value creativity on all our projects and we are always looking forward to advancing the industry and utilizing new technology.

Our structural team also has expertise designing buildings with specialized structural requirements such as buildings with heavy snow loads, high wind pressures, flood forces, and high seismicity. Our projects in varying climatic regions (including high alpine, arid desert, coastal, and remote locations) require unusual construction techniques and innovative solutions. Our team also enjoys the creative challenges of designing unique structures such as climbing walls and buildings made from shipping containers.

JVA has a group of structural engineers dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of historic properties. They specialize in archaic systems evaluation, investigative engineering services, and development of tailor-made structural treatment strategies that satisfy project objectives. These historic building projects have taken JVA coast to coast and many have received national awards for their innovation and sensitivity.

JVA’s structural team utilizes technology to facilitate coordination with design and construction teams. We provide ongoing staff training to stay fluent with technological innovation such as drone mapping and embodied carbon analysis.
