Conifer commons is a workforce housing project for Alterra Mountain Company at Winter Park Resort. The project was a modular build with a constrained site due to the existing topography, adjacent CDOT Highway 40, and the Fraser River. The challenge was to fit a modular type building on a constrained site, which involved the use of retaining walls and water quality manholes in lieu of a water quality pond. Due to the short building season in Winter Park the project required an early start civil design for the water and sanitary utilities in order to facilitate the modular build the following summer. The project was completed on time and within the budget, delivering over 300 additional beds for Winter Park Resort employee housing. Conifer Commons has been used as a case study for other modular workforce housing projects around the country.
