Project Description
JVA served as the civil and structural engineer of record for the Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion, a new two-story, 70,430-square-foot healthcare facility on the Boulder Community Health Foothills Campus. The project represents a significant expansion of healthcare services for the Boulder community, bringing comprehensive medical and dental care, behavioral health and nutrition services, minor surgical procedures, pharmacy services, and pediatric dental hygiene under one roof.
The facility’s structural design combines composite steel floor framing with bar joist roof construction, complemented by exposed canted wood glulam post-and-beam framing with a steel roof deck at the lobby. The building incorporates three large column-free spaces to provide flexible, welcoming environments for patients and staff, along with a monumental stair and numerous second-floor overhangs that contribute to the building’s distinctive architectural character. JVA addressed a range of structural and site complexities, including several rooftop patios, a green roof, and large parapets in conjunction with sloping roofs.
