Goodnight Barn Stabilization

Location: Pueblo, CO
Budget: $650K
Size: 2,400 SF

Project Description

The historic Goodnight Barn is a 2,400-square-foot sandstone structure built by Charles Goodnight in 1871 near Pueblo, Colorado. When JVA evaluated the barn in 2014, significant deterioration had left the structure at risk of collapse, including failing roof-to-wall connections, erosion at the base of the masonry walls, and outward movement of three perimeter walls. JVA first prepared construction documents for temporary stabilization, including securing the racking walls and reestablishing the roof diaphragm connection while permanent solutions and funding were developed. JVA then prepared construction documents for the barn’s long-term stabilization and rehabilitation, including foundation improvements beneath the existing perimeter walls and interior columns, strengthening of the timber frame supporting the hay loft and roof structure, and comprehensive masonry wall rehabilitation.
