The Ponderosa Community Housing project, along with the new BoulderMOD factory, reflects what is possible when strong partnerships come together to address a shared challenge like affordable housing.
JVA is proud to support this effort alongside City of Boulder Housing, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, Caddis Architecture, and our broader design partners. Together, the team is delivering affordable housing while creating meaningful workforce and educational opportunities for the community.
As part of the construction of a modular factory, BVSD high school students (through the APEX program) along side future residents of the Ponderosa homes (as part of the Habitat sweat equity approach) are able to help build modular homes with community members at large. This is a practical approach that connects housing, education, and workforce development in a very tangible way.
JVA’s role spans both sides of this initiative. Our civil engineering team has supported the Ponderosa site since its annexation into the City, where 73 affordable homes are planned and 14 are already complete, including the first two modular homes delivered this March. Our structural engineering team designed the 31,000-square-foot BoulderMOD factory, where the homes are constructed in a controlled environment that enables year-round production. Being part of both where these homes are built and where they are placed is especially meaningful to us.
Projects like Ponderosa remind us that while affordable housing is complex, progress is possible through collaboration, creativity, and a willingness to approach things differently.Â
