J.R. Spung, Civil Senior Project Manager, Associate

J.R. Spung is a Civil Senior Project Manager and Associate in the Glenwood Springs office. He’s worked at JVA for four years and has 19 years of civil engineering experience under his belt. J.R.’s favorite project at JVA so far has been the Aspen Mountain Ski Area Pandora expansion project because it combined work with his favorite activity, skiing.

J.R. worked in engineering and construction for 19 years – some might say engineering is in his blood. His dad was an engineer and in land development in Ohio and Atlanta and he was fascinated with building since he was a kid playing with Legos. J.R. is most proud of all his school projects, the biggest school project being the Meeker High School project. The design of the renovation and additions to the old school was difficult but will be a huge upgrade for the community.

JVA’s culture is what drew him to work for the firm. He is most impressed with the wide bank of knowledge that the staff at JVA has. He likes the breadth of project types and locations he gets to work on and of course the great cultural events at JVA!

He enjoys the usual Colorado activities, skiing, snowboarding, biking, hiking, camping, and rafting. His favorite local lunch spot in Glenwood Springs is the local Indian cuisine, Masala & Curry, but with an honorable mention of the world-renowned tacos at Slope and Hatch.

Raul Morales, Civil Project Engineer

Raul Morales is a Civil Project Engineer in the Glenwood Springs office. He has worked for JVA for six years and was the first Glenwood Springs hire in the Civil Engineering department. He has worked in the civil engineering & land development field for 14 years. Raul’s favorite projects are the many K-12 schools that he has worked on. Raul enjoys the unrivaled culture JVA has created and looks forward to every one of the company sponsored events every year.

When he’s not behind the keyboard and mouse, he enjoys all things outdoors with his wife and daughter. His favorite activities include anything and everything outdoors and human powered: mountain biking, rafting and ski touring are his top three. Raul has spent a lot of time the last two winters training for and competing in ski mountaineering (or skimo) races. The Roaring Fork Valley is a hot spot for this sport and he’s proud to say that he brought up the rear in nearly all the local races. He’ll take “Dead Last” over a “Did Not Finish” any day of the year. 😉

Raul notes Glenwood Springs is very fortunate in the cuisine department. Recently, he’s been on a steady diet of Indian Food, alternating between the downtown staple of Masala & Curry and the newer spot in town, Everest Nepal. He can’t get enough of the spicy goodness and cheesy naan!
