Paul Stoffel, Structural Senior Project Manager, Regional Engineering Manager

Paul is a Structural Senior Project Manager and Regional Engineering Manager based in the Fort Collins office. He has worked for JVA for six years and has been in the industry for 17 years. Prior to joining JVA, he graduated from the University of Wyoming (Go Pokes!) and went straight to work for a small structural engineering firm based in Glenwood Springs specializing in custom residences in the Roaring Fork valley. Paul currently continues to work on custom residences in the Boulder and Steamboat areas as well as local school additions, PEMBs (pre-engineered metal buildings), and other wood projects.

Paul really enjoys the camaraderie of JVA, and especially enjoys the close-knit group in Fort Collins. The cultural events like JVA ski day, golf day, and the annual Rockies game are always a must! JVA is full of great people with smart engineers always willing to help each other out. That is what makes JVA successful and a great place to work.

Outside of work, Paul is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys skiing, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking with his family. Sports are also a big part of his life, including helping coach his son’s baseball and soccer teams as well as traveling for his daughter’s soccer and volleyball.

Julie Gustavson, Environmental Design Engineer

Julie is an Environmental Design Engineer based in the Fort Collins office. She has worked at JVA for five years. She is a non-traditional engineer having worked as a chemist and an English teacher overseas prior to attending graduate school at CSU for civil engineering. Julie blends her passions together through environmental engineering and continues to use her professional skills doing periodic overseas ministry with Engineering Ministries International (EMI).

Julie enjoys working at JVA for the diversity of projects, although she has developed a niche in the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) projects and serves on the board of Colorado Professionals in Onsite Wastewater (CPOW). What really keeps Julie coming to work every day is the amazing group of people she gets to interact with and learn from.

During her free time, Julie enjoys spending time outside with her husband and friends hiking, biking, and playing spikeball®. She also recently bought a house and is enjoying the perks and responsibilities of home ownership – tips and tricks welcome!

Eric Kohnen, Civil Project Engineer

Eric is a Civil Project Engineer in the Fort Collins Office. Eric came to JVA after earning his Master’s degree from Colorado State University and has been with JVA for six years. Prior to joining JVA, Eric worked as a Tenant Contractor Coordinator at a large mall redevelopment in New Orleans and interned with the City of Colorado Springs as a stormwater engineer during the summer after one of the heaviest rainfall seasons. At JVA, Eric enjoys working on parks or school grounds with sports track and turf; a bonus for anything where the building is not the centerpiece of the project.

Outside of his engineering duties, Eric enjoys the culture and people at JVA. He has taken a lead in volunteering opportunities, sporting events, and the cultural tastings at the Fort Collins Office. The camaraderie of the JVA team, and particularly the Fort Collins office, is a big part of being able to come into work each day with a smile.

In his free time, Eric spends time exercising, entertaining, playing games, watching movies, and recently, learning to play piano and guitar. Eric enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, camping, backpacking, and snowshoeing with his wife and two dogs. His favorite vacations include annual National Park visits and his goal is to visit every single park and National Monument in the U.S.
